SOUTHAMPTON
Victoria (Piekos) Zabawa, age 84, of Southampton, died on Monday June 3, 2019. Born August 23, 1934 in Cheshire, MA to Jan and Karolina (Bulsa) Piekos, she attended Cheshire Schools, was a 1952 graduate of Adams High School and attended the University of Massachusetts. Victoria worked as a secretary in East Hartford and at insurance agencies in Adams and Pittsfield. The family moved to Southampton in 1973 and she worked for USDA Agencies in Amherst as a Loan Officer until her retirement in 1997. She was Treasurer of Southampton Mother’s Club, Friends of Southampton Council on Aging, Springfield Chapter of the Compassionate Friends, a former AARP Holyoke Chapter 1524 member, as well as a former TRIAD member. Victoria was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Edward P. Zabawa, on May 15, 2002. She is survived by her children: Paul of California; Kevin (Deirdre) of Southampton; Sharyn (Steven) Hocurscak of Sterling, MA; Dianne (Donald) of Agawam; daughter-in-law Kathleen Bemben of Hadley; grandchildren: Nicole and Amanda Zabawa, Victoria Sutherland, Anastasia Hocurscak, Neil and Malcolm Zabawa; a brother, Francis Piekos of Cheshire; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, David Zabawa; her brothers: Walter, Stanley, John, Josef, Kazimier, Tadeus, and Henry; her sisters: Emilia Jajko, Marie Adamcek, and Sophie Gwozdz; nieces Kathleen Piekos and Pauline (Piekos) Morris; a nephew, Stanley Piekos; grandnephew Nicholas Piekos; great-grandnephew Wyatt Cearnel; and grandniece Kelly (Jajko) Rahilly. Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00 am in Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish, 159 Church Street, Cheshire, MA. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA.
