We are saddened to announce the passing of Amparo Alicea of Holyoke, MA on June 29, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born on August 21, 2035, in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, to Obdulio and Benedicta Alicea. Amparo was blessed with a long life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. She became the matriarch of the family when she and her brothers relocated to Massachusetts in the 50’s. She worked tirelessly as a machinist to support her son and frequently sent money to her parents in Puerto Rico, never forgetting the poverty she left behind. She was quick to prepare a hot meal and offer a clean bed to anyone who needed it. She shared her deep faith in action and nightly prayers for her “santitos”, those who passed before her. She was known for her strength, generosity, sense of humor, and commitment to the family, which she extended to her nieces and nephews. Her parting blessing at the end of each phone call was, “I love you; I adore you. God bless you and accompany you.” Amparo will be sorely missed by her family. She is survived by her beloved brother Marcelino Alicea of Holyoke, MA, her son Edwin Alberto Torres of Boston, MA, her devoted nieces Rosalia Flores and husband Miguel Flores of Monson, Migdalia Matta of Webster, Maria Vega of Holyoke, Brenda Skurka and Eva Alicea of Cleveland, OH, and nephews David Alicea of Chicago, ILL, and Rene Alicea of Southbridge, MA, as well as several nephews and nieces. Amparo was predeceased by her sisters, Elvira Alicea Torres and Rosalia Alicea Vazquez of Puerto Rico, and her brothers Ismael Alicea, Marcial Alicea, Jesus Alicea of Southbridge, MA and Jesus M. Alicea of Easthampton, MA. We invite you to join us in remembering and celebrating her life. Visitation will be held Monday, July 7, 2025, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home located at 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church located at 54 North Summer Street, Holyoke, MA.
