It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the matron of our family, Anita Marie Maloney, at the age of 76 who entered into eternal rest on September 12, 2024 at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Holyoke on February 22, 1948 to Raynald A. Roy and Catherine Marie (Jumping Eagle) Roy, Anita, a lifelong long Holyoker, was the second of five siblings. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Roger Roy of Michigan, sister Linda Dooley of Holyoke, and stepson Cpt. John W. Maloney USMC. Anita is survived by her devoted husband John E. Maloney; her children: Melissa Hamre of Granby, MA, Joshua and daughter-in-law Donna Hamre of Enfield, CT, James Maloney of Holyoke, Jason and Jinsil Maloney of Fredericksburg, VA, and Michelle Maloney of Aurora, CO; and sisters: Dorothy Oman of Iowa and Marilyn McLeish of Holyoke. Anita was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Lucas, Taylor, Moira, Ashton, Sydney, Bradley, Nathaniel, McKenna, Mikaela, and Danielle, as well as three great-grandchildren: Helena, Elliot and Enzo.

Anita was a kind, compassionate soul, always willing to volunteer to support others, and donating what she could to charity. She was endlessly supportive of her family in all their endeavors. She was a woman of iron, forged in the struggles and hardships she faced in her early years. She would advocate for her children who in turn would advocate for her. Anita graduated from STCC, and worked for the Holyoke District Court. She loved dancing, listening to music, and arts of all kinds. Most of all, Anita would radiate in the presence of her family, with a smile that would brighten any space and a spirit that lives on in the hearts of all she encountered.

The funeral will be held on Friday, September 20th at 9:00 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, both in Holyoke. Burial will follow in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 19th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Anita’s honor to Hope for Holyoke Peer Recovery Support Center, where she supported others and enjoyed community activities as a recovery ally.
