Anthony Alan Gazda, 66, peacefully passed into eternal life after a long, courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 20, with his beloved wife, Liz (Niedzielski) by his side. He was born and raised in Holyoke, a son of Anthony Peter and Marie (Belden) Gazda. After graduating from Holyoke High School, Alan joined the U.S. Coast Guard and proudly served his country for 4 years. In 1987, he became a firefighter and served on the Holyoke Fire Department for 28 years. Alan loved being outdoors in every season, but his favorite place to be was in his boat on the water hoping to catch the next big fish. He also enjoyed playing pool or cribbage or just shooting the breeze with buddies at the Easthampton Rod and Gun Club. But at the end of each day, he always came home to the “love of his life.” Besides his wife, Liz, he leaves his brother, Mike and wife, Deb Gazda, and his sister, Ann and husband, Bruce Winberg, loving aunts, Maryann Pepin and Katharine Araldi, caring in-laws and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. David Bishop and the wonderful nurses at Mercy’s Sr. Caritas Infusion Suite for your loving care. The funeral Mass will take place Monday, April 25, at 9:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton St., Holyoke, followed by burial at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Agawam. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
