HOLYOKE

Antoinette (Toni) S. (Cote) DeRoy, 95, of Holyoke, MA, Passed away peacefully in her sleep, on July 21, 2020. Born in Springfield, MA on July 19, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and (Antoinette Beauchemin, died in childbirth) and Anna (Choinard) Cote.  She attended school in Springfield and graduated from Commerce High School class of 1944.  Antoinette retired from the Holyoke Soldiers Home in 1989, after a 15 year career as a principal secretary to the Engineering Department. She also worked at Dorothy Dodds’ store in Holyoke and for the Welfare Dept. in Holyoke.  Her most interesting job was as a Bartender at The Riverview Club, a club she and Middy (Dad) owned in Holyoke. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Church, in Holyoke and a former parishioner of Perpetual Help Church, Holyoke. She is also a Member of Perpetual Help Guild since 1976, and the Societe des Dames de Ste-Anne of Notre-Dames Perpetuel-Secours (Society of Ladies of St. Anne, Noter-Dame Perpetual-Help) since 1960.  Toni (Mom) was very devoted to her Family and her Faith. She derived her Strength from her devotion To the Blessed Virgin Mary.  She instilled this strength in her Family. Mom’s only “Vice” was her love of “sweets”.  Bring her something sweet, and you were her friend forever.  She and her loving husband, Amedee N. DeRoy, who predeceased her in 2008, were married in 1947 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield, MA.  They had 61 loving years together and raised eight children.  She is survived by seven of her “wonderful children” and their spouses.  Diane (John) Crawford of Ellenton, FL; Janice Baldwin of Holyoke, MA; Christine (Paul) Guimond of Amherst, MA; Edward DeRoy (deceased); Michele (Joseph) Borucki of So. Hadley, MA; Ronald (Candace) DeRoy of Holyoke, MA; Lynne (Douglas) Tanner of Oakland, N. J.;  and Paul DeRoy of Holyoke, MA.  She also leaves one Sister and her husband, Irene (Edward) Knowlton of Hatfield, MA. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Cote and a sister and her husband Anita (Henry) D’Amours. She also was predeceased by her Brother and Sister in Law, Gerard (Claire) DeRoy , and another sister-in-law and her husband, Annette (DeRoy) (Charles) Reynolds .  Antoinette (Memere/Big Memere/Big Big Memere) will be sadly missed by fourteen Grandchildren, Kimberly (Larry) LaClaire; Shannon (Angel Santiago) Kreyeski ; Ronald (Heather) DeRoy Jr.; Kerrie (Peter) Picone; Kristie (Humbe) Olivero; Stacy (Matt) Geaughan; Stefanie (Adam) Diorio; Tony (Liz Walker) DeRoy; Maxwell (Erin) Tanner; Lisa (Ryan) Cauley; Lauren Tanner,  Christian DeRoy; Daniel DeRoy; and Brooke Tanner and Twenty Great-Grandchildren and Three Great-Great Grand Children.  She was predeceased by two additional Grandchildren, Tina Guimond and Jason DeRoy.  She will also be missed by her two Step Grandchildren, Cindy Crawford of Wheaton, MD and John K. Crawford of Hickory, NC, along with three Step-Great-Grandchildren. She will also be missed by several loving Nieces and Nephews and their families.  Toni will also be missed by all the friends of her 8 children, who always had a special place in her heart.  Toni has several loving Cousins in Canada.  She will also be missed by several Neighbors from her many years at Sycamore House. There will be a viewing for family and friends at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA, on Sunday, July 26th, 2020, from 2 to 4 PM.  Her Funeral Mass will be on Monday July 27th at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of the Cross Catholic Church in Holyoke, MA.  Burial will be for Immediate Family, following the Mass, at the Veterans Cemetery in Agawam, MA.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor, to St. Jude’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Way.
