Arlene B. Colthart, 93, of Holyoke passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025. Arlene was born in Holyoke, MA, the daughter of Peter Bain and Catherine Ingram Bain. She was educated in the Holyoke school system and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1949. Arlene married her best friend and love of her life, Don Colthart in June of 1954, and they were married for over 64 years until Don’s passing in 2018. After their marriage, Don and Arlene moved to South Hadley, where they raised their family and lived for 28 years. Upon retirement, Arlene and Don moved to Deltona, FL, where they enjoyed living for 23 years. In 2009, they moved back to Holyoke to be closer to their family. Arlene was an avid reader, a talented seamstress and a creative quilter, but her biggest passion was spending time with her family, especially holiday gatherings, summer parties and surprise visits from her grandchildren. Arlene is survived by her daughters Donna (Rick) Lukasik of Springfield, Carol (Wayne) Pelis Manley of South Deerfield, and Nancy Alexander of Greenfield. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Carolyn (David) Rodriguez, Peter (Rachel Armstrong) Lukasik, Andrew Lukasik, Katie Alexander, Scott Pelis; a great-granddaughter, Fiona Rodriguez and great-grandson Ian Rodriguez as well as several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arlene was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald F. Colthart and her sister Constance Bain Ohlin. Arlene’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Providence Place for creating such a loving and compassionate community for their residents. Arlene was grateful to call this wonderful community her home for the last 5 years. The funeral service will be held at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke on Saturday January 18th at 11:00 am. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 17th, from 4:00-7:00 pm.
