Atty. Charles P. Lavelle, age 79, of Holyoke, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Charles P. and Julia F. (O’Connor) Lavelle and was educated in the Holyoke schools. Charlie graduated from Holyoke High School in 1963, Holyoke Community College in 1965, and the University of Massachusetts in 1967. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1968 to 1970. After his military service, he returned to law school and graduated from Suffolk University School of Law in 1972. Charlie was a lawyer in private practice for many decades before working in the City Solicitor's Office in Holyoke. He was a member and past president of the Holyoke Bar Association, a member of Holyoke Lodge of Elks 902, and the Saint Patrick’s Committee of Holyoke. Charles is survived by a son, Justin M. Lavelle of Northampton, a daughter Alissa S. Marotto and her husband Kevin of Northampton; three grandchildren: Samuel, Lilah and William Marotto, and his former wife, Cheryle Campbell of Easthampton. Charlie was an avid skier, tennis player, and long-time member of the Holyoke Canoe Club. In his later years, he found peace sitting by the river with a book in hand. A man of few words, when he did speak, it was always with intelligence, insight, and often heartfelt emotion. He had a way with words and could convey so much with so little. Charlie cared deeply for his family and friends, cherishing the time spent with them. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren, always eager to hear about Justin’s law cases, Alissa’s projects and parenting adventures, and rarely missing any of his grandchildren’s sporting events. His quiet strength and unwavering support will be deeply missed. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Committal with Military Honors will take place on Friday, April 4th at 9:00 a.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
