Augusto Lourenco Neves, 85, of Holyoke passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Augusto was born in the village of Corujeira, Portugal near Guarda on November 30, 1936 to Maria Luisa Neves and Francisco Lourenco. He leaves his loving and devoted wife, Gloria Tavares Neves of 57 years, and adoring daughter Luisa Neves-Jarrett. He was predeceased by his loving son, Jorge L. Neves. He also leaves his son-in-law Wayne C. Jarrett, and daughter-in-law Luanne Parolin Neves. Augusto’s pride and joy were his most cherished grandchildren, Christopher Jarrett (his fiancé Shannon Mitchell), Carla Jarrett, Jack Neves, Annie Neves and Emilia Neves. He is survived by his brother, Felizmino Lourenco Neves (Lucilia predeceased) and sister, Lurdes (Neves) Coelho (Jose predeceased). He was predeceased by his sisters, Emilia Lourenco Neves (Francisco) and Clara Neves Morgado (Manuel) and his brothers, Manuel Lourenco (Maria dos Anjos), Jose Lourenco (Amelia), Joaquim Lourenco (Maria da Luz), Armenio Lourenco Neves and his surviving wife Clotilde, Amandio Neves (Antonietta), Antonio Lourenco Neves and his surviving wife Marinete, and Orlindo Lourenco Neves (Irene). He leaves behind a large extended family of nieces and nephews from the Lourenco-Neves and Tavares families who he cherished deeply. Augusto immigrated to Mozambique, Africa in 1954 where he met and married the love of his life and started a family. He then moved his family to America to pursue the American dream in 1976. He retired from Mastex in 1997. Augusto was a man of great faith and a communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Parish. He was a proud member of the Portuguese American Club in Holyoke where he served as President. He raised his family always leading with incredible strength and kindness but more importantly with enormous love. Words are not enough to express the incredible loss we all feel, his infectious smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed. The funeral will be held on Saturday July 30 at 10:30am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Cross Parish in Holyoke. Calling hours will be held on Friday July 29 from 4:00 to 6:00pm and Saturday July 30 from 9:00 to 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Cross Parish, 15 Maple Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
