Barbara A (Deslippe) Chatel

HOLYOKE:  Barbara A. (Deslippe) Chatel, age 89, of Holyoke, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center.  She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Henry and Lena (Duprey) Deslippe and was a 1950 graduate of Holyoke High School and attended Holyoke Business School.  Barbara retired in 1995 from New England Archives, after 20 years.  She was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church and was a member of the Low Vision Group in South Hadley, the Holyoke Senior Center, Holyoke Council on Aging, Chicopee Travel Group and the former Elmwood Towers Association. Barbara loved traveling, shopping, ceramics and having dinner with friends.  The family would like to thank Barbara’s home health aide, Petie, as well as the fourth floor staff of Holyoke Health Care Center.  Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Richard Chatel, in 2011.  She is survived by five children:  Michael Smallwood and his wife Sandra of Holyoke, Marlene King and her husband Garry of Holyoke, Mark Chatel of Holyoke, Michele Fleury and her husband Michael of South Hadley, and Gary Chatel and his wife Gladys of Holyoke; ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren (with two on the way); her best friend, Ruth Arble; her beloved cat Jesse and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, William Deslippe and sister-in-law Terri Deslippe.  The Funeral will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street.  Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley.  Calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Perkins School for the Blind, 175 N Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or the Dakin Humane Society, P.O.
