Barbara Barton Dunn, 88, of Holyoke, MA, previously of Agawam and Chatham, died peacefully on March 16, 2023, at Mary’s Meadow.
Barbara was born November 13, 1934, in Springfield MA, to William and Esther (Connors) Barton. Babs grew up in Springfield and Longmeadow and graduated from Classical High School in 1952. She continued her education at UMass Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1956. She later obtained her master’s degree in education.
After college, Barbara began a business career with Proctor and Gamble and then went on to teach in the Agawam, Springfield, and Holyoke public schools until her retirement. She loved the ocean and beach and spent her retirement in Chatham, MA on Cape Cod when she wasn’t off traveling the world with her cherished friends or companion, Dave.
Barbara was very political during her 40 years in Agawam, was Chairman of the Agawam Democratic Committee and was on the Board of Registrars overseeing the votes. She was also a member of the Arts and Humanities Council and the Agawam Historical Society.
Babs is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill. She is survived by her children Lauren Dunn of Greenfield, MA, and Jeff Dunn (Julie) of Apex, NC, grandchildren Christine Dunn, Trevor Dunn (Samantha), and Sarah Matherson, and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Lynch of Holyoke, nephew Ned Lynch and niece Kate Lynch. She leaves behind her partner of 25 years, David Walsh, of Nashua, NH.
A private service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
