Barbara Ann McKenzie

Barbara Ann McKenzie, age 91, of Holyoke, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Regal Care in Holyoke. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late John and Sabina (Reilly) McKenzie and was educated in the local schools. She earned a Master’s Degree in History from Elms College. Barbara was a member of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Springfield for twenty years. She later taught school in South Hadley at the Michael E. Smith Middle School, and then did some substitute teaching in West Springfield. She volunteered for the Daughters of the Heart of Mary at the Marian Center in Holyoke after retirement from teaching. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish. She is survived by her godchild, Christine LaFortune; her cousin, Kathleen Murphy; her best friend, Anita Byrd, and several cousins. All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara on Tuesday, August 22nd at 10:00 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
