Bess Stathis, age 96, of Holyoke, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Mission Care of Holyoke. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late George and Joanna (Bikos) Stathis, and was educated in local schools. Over the years Bess worked as a Restaurant Manager and Supervisor at a few well-known establishments including The Yankee Pedlar, Old Storrowtown Tavern, Yankee Silversmith, and the Tobacco Valley Inn; she was also the Proprietor of The Golden Lemon. In addition to working in the restaurant industry, Bess was also involved in her community; she served as Commissioner of Holyoke Parks and Recreation, Director of the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce, a Trustee of People’s Savings Bank, Chairman of the Holyoke Bicentennial, and a member of the Holyoke Hospital’s Board of Directors. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Holyoke. Bess is survived by her nephew, Stephen Stathis and his wife Launa of Madison, CT; niece, Elizabeth Mosher and her husband Michael of Cape Coral, FL; great-niece, Kris Wilkins and her husband Chris, and several other extended family members. Besides her parents, Bess was predeceased by her siblings, Mary, Angelia, and Spiro, and her sister-in-law, Roberta Stathis. A Funeral Service will be held for Bess on Friday, April 21st at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 410 Main Street, followed by burial in Forestdale Cemetery, 304 Cabot Street, both in Holyoke. A calling hour will be held in the Church prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 410 Main St., Holyoke, MA 01040. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home in Holyoke is assisting the family.
