Carmen Sullivan Obituary

GRANBY

Carmen (Schreiber) Sullivan, 74, passed away on May 8th at home surrounded by loved ones.  Born January 28, 1947 in Würzburg, Germany, Carmen was the only child of the Edward M. Parks and the late Hannelore (Schreiber) Parks.  Following graduation from Northampton High School, she attended the Western Union Training Academy and was a teletype operator for seven years prior to assuming a position as senior administrative assistant for the German Studies and Russian & Eurasian Studies Departments at Mount Holyoke College, a position she held for 37 years before her retirement in 2017.  She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Holyoke.

Carmen loved to cook, bake, garden, knit, and create beautiful one-of-a-kind crafts.  She was very proud of her German cultural heritage and was especially passionate about serving her church as a member of the Parish Council and the Philoptochos Society (Friends of the Poor).  Her generosity, creativity, kindness, welcoming nature, and loving spirit will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues.

Carmen leaves John, her beloved husband of 55 years, as well as her son, John Jr., and his wife Darlene of Belchertown,  daughter Dena Sullivan, of Chicopee, grandchildren John Sullivan III, Stephannie Morris, Tyler Janicki, Joshua Clark, Ashleigh Weibel, and one great grandchild, Isabella Morris.  She is also survived by several cousins in the U.S. and in Germany.

The funeral service will take place at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 11th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Holyoke preceded by a calling hour in the church from 10-11 am.  Burial to follow at West Street Cemetery in Granby.  The family would like to thank Holyoke VNA and Hospice for their care of Carmen.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 410 Main Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
