Carol A. Carrington (Hojnowski), 83, passed away November 23, 2024, surrounded by family at home. She was a lifelong resident of Holyoke who will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. Carol worked for several years at General Cleaners of Holyoke before devoting her time to raising her family. She volunteered her time at Sullivan School in the 70’s and 80’s, helping and supporting students, organizing fundraisers and school trips. Thereafter, she worked at her friend’s business, Mary A. Draperies, making custom made drapes. She was a beautiful person and fierce protector of her loved ones. Carol was an animal lover, always taking in stray cats and giving them a loving home. She was always available for anyone who needed help or someone to talk to. She raised her kids with values and to never look down upon another for what they lacked. She was always kind and giving to those less fortunate. Carol loved being a grandmother to Sarah and played a significant role in raising her. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Backgammon and cards, dancing, listening to rock n’ roll, funk and country music. She was an avid reader and her favorite authors were Stephen King, Anne Rice and Nora Roberts. She also enjoyed her television shows and watching horror/supernatural movies. Carol was predeceased by her parents, John and Nellie Hojnowski, and her siblings, Larry Hojnowski and Dolores Schmeck. She leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Valentino L. Carrington; her cat Misty; her daughters, Tina Potts (Duda) & husband Steven; Rachel Carrington; granddaughter, Sarah Shevlin; nieces, Melissa Hojnowski and son Angus; and Krista Kane (Hojnowski). She also leaves behind her extended family and best friends, Betty Martinet and Shirley Wharton. Carol’s family is especially grateful for the compassion and care she received in her final days from Compassus Hospice Care. Calling hours are Monday December 2, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00pm in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Burial is Tuesday December 3, 2024 at 10:00am in St. Jerome Cemetery, 1666 Northampton Street, Holyoke.
