Carol Ann (Hohenberger) Mackey, 90, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Holyoke, she was the daughter of the late George and Evelyn (Thomson) Hohenberger. She graduated from Holyoke High School in 1951 and the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1955. Carol was predeceased by her husband, Paul, in 2008; son, David, in 2019; grandson, Brian, in 2007; and great- granddaughter, Kiera, in 2014. She leaves her sons: Kirk (Lise) and Jeffrey (Gail) of South Hadley, and Peter of Holyoke, and daughter-in-law, Darlene also of Holyoke. In addition, Carol leaves 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly and always brought a smile to her face. A lifelong Holyoker, nothing was more important than family to her. The Holidays, especially St. Patrick’s Day, and family gatherings on River Terrace were legendary. In her early years she could be found at her son’s many sporting events, enjoying the Holyoke Canoe Club, or searching for the Indian artifacts with her good friend, Denise Curtis. She travelled extensively with Paul spending a great deal of time in Ireland, Scotland, and Germany, where they explored the family’s genealogy. Later in life she loved nothing more than her visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held for Carol on Saturday, October 14th from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a brief service. Burial will follow in Forestdale Cemetery, Cabot Street, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mackey Family Scholarship Fund c/o Peoples Savings Bank, 1866 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
