Catherine Marie (Cavanaugh) Moynahan, 77, lifelong resident of Holyoke, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 30, 2024. Catherine was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Thomas and Michalene (Barbacki) Cavanaugh, and was educated in Holyoke schools. Her father Tommy founded Tommy’s Taxi and Catherine grew up in a large Catholic family, one of 13 siblings. She worked as a nursing assistant for many years before pursuing her passion for cooking as the owner/operator of the Hol-Yoke Restaurant from 1995 until she retired in 2014.
Catherine is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 59 years, David Moynahan. She also leaves five children: Jacqueline Pych of Holyoke; Dana Moynahan of Holyoke; Sharon Heston and her husband Karl of Northampton; Johnathan Moynahan and his partner James Burke of Atlanta, GA; and Erin Moynahan of Holyoke; nine grandchildren: Maghan, Haleigh, Hayden, Reese, Catherine, Molly, Ryan, Victoria, and Mallory; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five brothers John, Michael, Patrick, Richard, William, and a sister, Johanna, as well as a very special “daughter”, Kimberly.
The funeral will be held Tuesday October 8th at 10:00am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam at 11:00am. Visitation will be held in the funeral home Tuesday from 8:00am to 10:00am.
