Cecile R. (Quenneville) Counter, age 88, of Holyoke, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Holyoke, a daughter of the late George and Flora (Couture) Quenneville and was educated in Holyoke schools. Cecile had worked at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home for more than 29 years, retiring in 2007. She was a devoted communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish and enjoyed: her family being the best Grandma and Grammy. Friends-especially chatting on the phone. Cheering on the New England Patriots, reading and time on her ipad. A good twist soft serve and hot dogs. Hallmark especially mystery movies. She loved the Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics too. She was an American Legion Auxiliary.
Cecile was the widow of Francis X. Counter who predeceased her on March 4, 1996. She is survived by three children: Geraldine A. Petrovsky and husband Joseph of Westfield, Charles F. Counter and his wife Erin of South Hadley and Gail E. Counter of Holyoke; three grandchildren: Stacy (David) Martin, Patrick (Jennifer) Counter and Renée (Zachary) Blood, as well as 2 great grandchildren: Hudson and Joseph Blood. She was predeceased by her brother George (Marie Anne) Quenneville.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, December 16 at 9:00 a.m. from Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 15 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
