Christopher F. Zurheide, age 58, of South Hadley, Massachusetts, passed away on August 19, 2023. Born on October 16, 1964, in Bronx, New York, to Joseph L. Zurheide, Sr. and Joan C. (Graham) Zurheide, they moved to Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1967. He attended Holyoke Public Schools and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1983. Dedicated to his work, Chris excelled in installing and inspecting commercial fire sprinkler systems, most recently at Legacy Fire Protection. He went above and beyond by serving as a volunteer firefighter in South Hadley for many years. Chris was a valued member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 902 and the Fraternal Order of Masons, Mount Tom Lodge. An ardent runner, he completed numerous races and marathons, and enjoyed the occasional motorcycle ride. He took pleasure in meticulously renovating his home and was known for his willingness to help others whenever they needed it. Chris found joy in the simple things, cherishing time with his close circle of friends and family, where his sense of humor and playfulness shone through. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joan C. Provost, Chris is survived by his siblings: John T. (Joy) Zurheide of Hatfield, Gary S. (Peggy) Zurheide of New York City, Barbara J. (Keith) Burelle of Granby, and Joseph L. (Marie) Zurheide, Jr. of Holyoke. He leaves behind 12 nieces and nephews, including his goddaughter, Sarah R. Zurheide of Holyoke, and many other family members. Chris also held a special place in his heart for his dearest friends, Walter and Jackie Dominguez of Holyoke, who were like family to him and a special uncle to their children. He will be remembered for his zest for life, his meticulous attention to detail, and his unwavering love for those closest to him. A Funeral Service will be held for Chris on Saturday, August 26th at 11:30 am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by burial in Forestdale Cemetery, Cabot Street, both in Holyoke. Calling hours will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am.
