Cynthia A. Gaughan Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Cynthia Ann Blazej Gaughan announces her passing at her home in Southwick on November 14, 2025, at the age of 76. The first-born child of Shirley Mae Lamory Blazej and Joseph Matthew Blazej, Cynthia grew up in West Holyoke and attended Elmwood Elementary School, John J. Lynch Junior High School, and Holyoke High, graduating in 1967. She was employed in various Holyoke businesses in administration for eight years. In 1975, she went to work at Digital Equipment Corp., Westfield, in the Accounting Department and was also an Inventory Controller/Work Coordinator for several stockrooms. The company closed in 1995. She always remembered her last employer telling her, "These computer will not last, they are just a fad!" After Digital, she continued her education at St. John's Business School in West Springfield. She graduated with a Computer Science and Accounting certificate, earning high honors in both. In 1997, she was employed By Spencer Turbine Company in Windsor, CT, in the Accounting/Credit Department. She retired from Spencer in 2013 after 18 years. In her retirement, Cynthia loved spending summers with her family at their cottage in Wells, Maine, and spent time reading, fishing, and going to the beach.
Cynthia leaves her very best friend, soul mate, and love of her live, Peter, whom she married in 1971. They were inseparable until her death. She also leaves her wonderful, caring, and loving daughter, Elizabeth Gaughan Bodurtha, her wonderful husband, Stephen, and two loving grandsons, Rowan and Sam, all of Granville.
She was very much a "hands-on" Grandma and loved every moment she spent with her grandchildren. Cynthy also leaves three siblings, whom she loved very much, Linda Blazej, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; Josef Blazej of Westfield; and Joanne Blazej of Westfield. She also leaves her niece and god-daughter, Julie; nephew Edward and his wife Jenny; and nephew Matthew and his wife Patty; five grand-nephews, Logan, Jaxson, Gabriel, Jacob, and Noah; and a grand-niece, Abigail. In addition, she leaves a step-son, Philip Gaughan, his wife, Jackie, and their forever daughter, Sharia, all of Palo Alto, CA; and her first cousin, Diana Abbott.
Last but not least, her faithful beagle, Boomer, who was with her until the end. Cynthy always said she wouldn't change her happy, full life for anything, and that she will be forever in her husband's and daughter's thoughts and dreams. Cynthia's funeral will be private, at her request, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke, with a private burial at Mater Dolorosa in South Hadley.
