Daniel F. Griffin, Jr., age 79, of Holyoke, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 30, 2022. He was born in Holyoke on November 1, 1942, son of the late Daniel F. and Lorraine (Bernier) Griffin. Dan was a 1959 graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School and went on to graduate from Greenfield Community College. He was employed as Director of Personnel for several companies including Erving Paper Mills, Greenfield Tap & Die, and Bendix Corp, and retired from Carando (Smithfield). Dan devoted his life to God, his family, and service to others. He volunteered for countless organizations, coached baseball and basketball, and was a lifelong blood donor. He was a member and very active in many clubs including Greenfield J.C.’s, Franklin County Personnel Group, Erving School Committee, Orange K of C, and, in later years, Chicopee K of C #69. He was also an adult altar server at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. Dan was a lifelong fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He had a host of loyal and devoted family members and friends who will all miss him.
Besides his parents, Dan was predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen and Ann, and his brothers, Wayne, John, and Ken. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 59 years, Janet (Brogle) Griffin, as well as daughter, Lyn Griffin Wessels (Mike); son, Daniel T. Griffin (Vanessa); daughter, Laureen Wagner (Joseph); grandchildren: Matthew, Gabrielle, Erin, Laura, Michael, and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Clair, and brother, Michael Griffin (Betty).
The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 6th at 9:00 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, both in Holyoke. Burial will follow in Saint Jerome Cemetery, also in Holyoke. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 5th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
