Daniel A. Sudsbury Obituary

Daniel A. Sudsbury passed away on January 8, 2026 in Southbury, CT after a long illness. He was born in Holyoke November 5, 1944, son of the late Daniel F. Sudsbury and Esther M. (Moynahan) Sudsbury. He was predeceased by his parents and infant daughter Kate. His wife Shirley B. (Lupien) passed April 5, 2025. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Kara Dayton, her husband Scott and granddaughters Morrighan Dayton and Teaghan Dayton of Southbury, CT. He also leaves behind his life long dearest friends Gary and Roberta Huber, Greg and Ellen Keefe and Anthony Conte all of Florida as well as Bill and Rita Smith, Alan Fletcher, Bob Laramee, John Lenihan and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dan graduated from Holyoke High School in 1963 and attended the former Northampton Commercial College in 1965. In 1980 he graduated from Holyoke Community College and the University of Massachusetts in 1984. He was a fifty year member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks. Dan was appointed to the South Hadley Police Department in 1977 and served until 1982 when he accepted an appointment to the Holyoke Police Department where he served until 2002 retiring as a patrol lieutenant. Dan also served in the Air National Guard for twenty-one years retiring as a Technical Sergeant in 1986. Dan and Shirley retired to Ormond Beach, Florida in 2002. Later to The Villages and then Oxford, Florida. After Shirley’s passing Dan relocated to Southbury, CT to be near family. Calling hours will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 9:00am to 10:00am at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street. Burial will follow in Saint Jerome Cemetery, all in Holyoke.
