David Keith Obituary

David M. Keith of Holyoke, MA passed at his home surrounded by family on March 28, 2024. David was born in Holyoke, MA in 1929 to Margaret Joyce Keith and William Keith. David graduated from Holy Rosary School in 1947 and joined the Navy in 1948 where he served for four years on three different aircraft carriers during the Korean War. Upon his return, he was motivated to further his education and received degrees from Holyoke Community College, Wentworth Institute, and earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Engineering from Western New England University. David married Margaret Clark in 1957 and raised four wonderful daughters, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. David was a devoted father and worked hard to provide for his family. David had a long career having worked at Monsanto, General Offset Printing, Schaeffer Eaton, among others, and finally retired from Rexham Graphics in South Hadley, MA. David was a long- time member of the Model Cities Policy Board. He participated in many Holyoke Parades, building floats and marching as President of the Massachusetts State Young Democrats. He loved music and enjoyed producing plays and musicals as President of Kulturama. He served on the Board of Alderman as Alderman at Large. He was proud of his work in local and national politics and how all of these endeavors helped improve the city of Holyoke. David is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret (Clark) Keith. Four daughters; Mary Gayle Keith, Joyce Keith, Sandra (Keith) Curran and her husband, Roger Curran (deceased), and Laura (Keith) Cohen and husband John Cohen. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Mara (Keith-Hunter) Niefer and husband, Alexander Niefer, Eoin Keith-Hunter and his wife Katie Keith-Hunter, and Hunter Cohen. Finally, his beloved great grandchildren, Ryan, Anna, and Emily Niefer, who will miss his storytelling. 

David was predeceased by his siblings Mildred (Keith) Fallon, Eleanor (Keith) Santos, Margaret (Keith) Brassil, Anne (Keith) Rusiank, Joyce (Keith) Horne, Mary Keith, William Keith, and John Keith. David was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed running in Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Road Races and many others. He loved being in nature, especially at the family property in Chester, MA. He competed in the Westfield River Wildwater Races. He was a tinkerer, was never afraid to take something apart and put it back together, and was always busy. He had an affinity for sweets and never turned down a piece of cake with a cup of coffee. He will be deeply missed by his family and leaves behind a wonderful legacy for them to follow. The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 3rd at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church, Holy Cross Avenue. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Life Care, 575 Beech Street, Holyoke MA 01040.
