David Levin Obituary

David Ronald Levin passed away surrounded by love on February 16, 2026. He was born on October 19, 1947 in Los Angeles, California. David was the son of the late Jack and Minnie Levin. A talented singer and banjo player, David often sang at temple as he was growing up. These talents later bloomed into the formation of The Music Men, a band consisting of David and two of his high school friends. The Music Men performed at several events including The Pepsi Cola Hootenanny, and even took second place at the Battle of the Bands at the Hollywood Bowl. After high school, the group reimagined itself into a larger band they named Our Gang, who even recorded a demo album. It was David's dream to become a professional singer, but the Vietnam War had other plans for him. Other band members went on to fame and fortune, but David joined the Air Force as his number approached in the draft. David served in the Air Force, stationed in Germany, during the Vietnam conflict. It was during this time in Germany that he met and married his first wife. After returning to the states, they welcomed their son Ricky into the world. David's service to his country did not end in the Air Force, obtaining his bachelor's degree in Public Administration after leaving and applying those skills to his work for the Veteran's Administration. He continued to support his fellow veterans until his retirement in 2006, after more than 30 years of service to his country. In 2001, God blessed the broken road as he met the love of his life, Lauren. They married in 2005, and David immediately embraced the addition of her two children to his family. David and Lauren recently celebrated 20 years of marriage, and their love (and family) has only grown in that time. David enjoyed cruising, traveling, playing cards, watching movies, and sunning (baking) on the beach. Footbridge Beach in Ogunquit, Maine and the blue waters of Cancun were his favorites. If there was Mariachi music playing, all the better. He also enjoyed a relaxing evening at home, on the patio, fire pit blazing, some great tunes filling the air and an adult beverage or two. After surviving a stroke in December 2024 he was still able to enjoy his movies, his music, and spending time with family. David is survived by, his son, Rick (Misa) Levin of Crawfordville FL, stepson David Prevost (Jessica Rector) of Holyoke, MA, and stepdaughter Bethany Prevost (April Szafranski) of Madison, WI. In addition, he is survived by his sister-in-law Pat, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. David will also be missed by his beloved dogs, Izzy and Molly, and his granddog Waffles. David is predeceased by brothers Bobby and Jerry, and sister Barbara. A memorial and interment will be held at a Veteran's Cemetery at a later date.
