David Paul Soroka, age 73, of Holyoke, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, son of the late Michael and Florence (Ostrowski) Soroka, and graduated from Ashley Sugarnotch High School. David earned an Associates Degree in Engineering from Penn State University, and was a United States Air Force veteran. He moved to Massachusetts in 1973, and worked for many years as a Quality Control Manager for Mercury Plastics and, most recently, R.R. LeDuc Corporation. David was a member of American Legion, the Fairview Sportsmen Club, and the Penn State Alumni Association. He was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Parish in Holyoke. David is survived by his wife, Joann (Griffith) Soroka; two sons, Scott of Agawam and Stephen and his wife Julie of Lilburn, GA; a daughter, Sharon Machos and her husband Evan of West Springfield; three grandchildren: Nicolas, Caitlyn, and Natalie; two brothers, Michael and his wife Gina of Howell, MI, and Charles of Wilkes-Barre, PA, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 22 at 10:00 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church, Holy Cross Avenue, Holyoke. Committal with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 21 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, PO Box 1338, Holyoke, MA 01041.
