Donald Louis Kooken Obituary

Donald Louis Kooken, age 84, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 28, 2024 at Renaissance Manor on Cabot, surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born in Holyoke, son of the late Henry and Florence (Boisvert) Kooken and attended Holyoke schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1958 to 1961. Don was a salesman for National Blank Book Company before opening his own business, Framecraft Universal. He was a member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks #902, a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Council #4044, and a parishioner of Saint Jerom Parish. For more than 50 years, Don was a summer resident of Stonington, CT in the Lords Point neighborhood. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen M. (Sullivan) Kooken; two daughters: Kristina Bennett of Holyoke, and Erika Michaud and her husband Jayme of Holyoke; two grandchildren: Isabel Bennett and George Bennett; a sister Karen Remillard and her husband Tom of Southampton; and a nephew, Steven Cabana and his wife Karen. The funeral will be held on Friday August 2 at 9:30am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a prayer service in the funeral home at 10:00am. Committal with U.S. Navy Honors is scheduled for 11am Friday in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Visitation is Thursday August 1st from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
