1923 - 2021

Doris Emma (Peterson) Oyer, Lifelong resident of Holyoke, passed away peacefully at her home, Sunday, May 23, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Peter and Hedwig (Hattie Zenner) Peterson. Doris was a 1941 graduate of Holyoke High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and an outstanding athlete. During World War II she volunteered with the Red Cross at local hospitals and Westover Air Force Base as a nurse's aide. Doris was a member of the Rock Valley Improvement League, Rock Valley Women's Club and also served as a board member at Grace Congregational Church in South Holyoke. She volunteered at Holyoke Geriatric Center, the Senior Store at Heritage Park and was on the preservation committee of the Merry-Go-Round. Doris was an avid golfer and loved her Christmas Brunch gathering for family and friends and later her Christmas Cocktail Hours where she would give out her great art work she was famous for. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Raymond H. Oyer 1976, her brother, William H. Peterson and her inlaws Howard and Johanna Oyer of Upstate NY. Doris is survived by two sons, Don H. Oyer, spouse Darrin P. Iacoboni and Peter W Oyer, spouse Debbie who resided with her, all of Holyoke. She also leaves six grandchildren: Nicole, Kyle, Petra, Nakita, Ana and Gianluca as well as three great grandchildren. Doris will be missed by many family and friends, including in the Holyoke and Utica NY areas. Doris will be buried in Forestdale Cemetery with her husband in a private service as she requested. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holyoke VNA & Hospice Life Care, 575 Beech Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
