Dorothy M (Doyle) Brown, 96, of South Hadley, passed away at home peacefully on August 5th with her family by her side. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Howard and Anela (Stawasz) Doyle. Dorothy graduated from St. Jerome High School in 1947 and was a faithful communicant of St. Jerome Church. For decades she served as a Eucharistic Minister and lector along with her husband Tom. For many years she also crafted beautiful gifts at Christmas time for parishioners who were housebound. She volunteered for many years at a local Nursing Home where she would lead residents in group prayer and would always bring beautiful music to liven their spirits.
Dorothy was a great cook with many cherished recipes and her chocolate chip cookies are legendary.She was also a proud member of the Holyoke YMCA Water Lillies. Being with her family is what brought her the most joy. She will always be remembered for her devotion to God, her love for her family, her strength and her grace, her smile and her beauty.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband of 58 years Thomas Brown, and by her sons Daniel and Thomas, and a granddaughter Rachel Bowen. She is survived by her children Patricia McKissick of South Hadley, widow of John McKissick, Marian Kirley and husband Fran of Sykesville Md. James Brown of Tewksbury, Dorothy St. Germain of Westfield, widow of Mark St. Germain, Joan Bowen of Granby and her husband Jamie, Christine Brown of Chicopee, and daughter-in-law Lucinda Brown of South Hadley. Also survived by her cherished grandchildren Jonathan, Bryan, Patrick, Bevan, Katie, Christopher, Mark,Andrew, Sarah, Jamie, and Cayla. She also leaves behind 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was also predeceased by her siblings Florence, Joan, Jackie and Buddy. Our family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Hospice Team of the Holyoke VNA and special thanks to her nurse Stacie who went above and beyond. We are forever grateful.
Calling hours will be held at the Barry Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St. Holyoke, on Tuesday August 12 from 11:30 to 1pm followed by a funeral Mass in St. Jerome Chapel, 169 Hampden St. Holyoke, at 1:30pm with the burial to follow at St. Jerome Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jerome Parish of Holyoke.
