Edmond Dupont, Jr. Obituary

Edmond (Ed) H. Dupont Jr. left this world on March 14, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born February 23, 1943 to Edmond Sr. and Doris (Pollender) Dupont, Ed was a graduate of Precious Blood High School (Class of 1961) and a lifetime resident of Holyoke. He worked much of his career at National Metals in West Springfield as a tool and die maker, where he was a respected union leader. In retirement he became a Senior Advisor at H&R Block where he enjoyed helping folks year after year with their taxes. As a young man, he had many interesting hobbies such as scuba diving, roller skating with Top Hat Club, running with Empire One Running Club, photography, and playing in a band – The Earthquakes. He took so much pride working with his father in his various endeavors, specifically his antique shop. Ed was a lifelong learner, always with his nose in a book. He was a devoted cub/boy scout leader for Troop 1849 and enjoyed most going to Camp Moses in Russell, MA each summer and helping his son Stephen make Eagle Scout. Later in life, he could be found reading the comics, studying quantum mechanics just for fun, singing a tune to himself, collecting stamps or saving everything “just in case”. He was the guy you would call if you needed to borrow a VCR long after they were available to purchase. He was quick to tell you he was a member of Mensa, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. Ed was also a man of deep faith and was a member of the former Holy Cross Church in Holyoke.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his two brothers – Ronald and Raymond, and his brother-in-law, Randall Cobb. He leaves behind his loving wife of 37 years, Margo (Howes) and children – Edmond Dupont III (Sabrina), Melissa Dupont (Sean), Adam Dupont (Laura), Danielle Thornton (Chris), and Stephen Dupont (Kaitlin). He also leaves grandchildren – Torre, Savannah, Emily, Addison, AJ and a granddaughter due in June; great-grandson Traeton; three sisters, Rosalie (Bob), Irene, and Linda; two sisters-in-law Linda Cobb, and Jane Dupont; several nieces and nephews; and his fur babies Oliver and Shadow.

A private service will be held at Barry Farrell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School PO Box 100 Chamberlain, SD 57325 ( – a charity whose students brought much joy to Ed with their drawings and pictures.

The Duponts would like to thank the Holyoke Hospice team for all of their care and compassion while Ed was at home, and caregivers Kiara and Zak, who while only there for a short time, became part of the family.
