Emily M. (Paszko) Fitzgerald

SOUTHAMPTON:  Emily M. (Paszko) Fitzgerald “Mickey”, age 84, of Southampton, MA, passed away peacefully June 14, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Holyoke, MA, daughter of the late Stephen and Genevieve (Sypek) Paszko.  Mickey graduated from Holyoke High School in 1957, was married to John J. Fitzgerald “Fitzie” in 1960, and later built their family home in Southampton where they raised their 4 children.  She was a former member of the Southampton Mother’s Club, volunteered at the town hall counting votes and enjoyed gathering with her friends to socialize and play cards.  She enjoyed our annual family trip to Misquamicut Beach and vacationing with her 2 sisters at their family home in Marco Island.  Mickey was a kind and compassionate CNA for many years at Riverdale Gardens Nursing Home in West Springfield.  Her parents owned and operated Paszko Farms in Southampton growing a variety of vegetables and flowers. She would help at the Farmer’s Market each week in Holyoke and West Springfield where she loved engaging with her customers.  She took a lot of pride in planting and tending to her own flowers where she could sit and admire them on her back deck.  But most of all, she enjoyed the time she spent with her family, especially her 4 grandchildren whom she adored.  She was a proud parishioner of Our Lady of the Cross Church.  Mickey was predeceased by Fitzie, just last year, after 63 years of marriage. She is survived by her four children; Lynn Berthiuame and her husband Ronald of Holyoke, Karen Fitzgerald and her friend Bob Saliwoda of Easthampton, John S. Fitzgerald of Southampton and Tara Blondin and her partner Marc Gendron of Westfield, and her four grandchildren; Ashley Berthiuame, Kyle Berthiuame, Emily Blondin and Alyssa Blondin.  In addition to her loving sisters, Joan Rush of Southampton and Shirley Anop and her husband Victor of Chicopee, she leaves behind several nieces and nephews and her beloved rescue cat “Fluffy”.  Calling hours will be held at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home in Holyoke, MA on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 8:30am-10:00am with a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Cross Church at 10:30am.  Burial to follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mickey’s memory to Our Lady of the Cross Church, 23 Sycamore Street, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to Dakin Humane Society, PO Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.
