Emily "Mickey" (Sypek) Murawski Obituary
Emily "Mickey" (Sypek) Murawski, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, April 22. Born May 18th, 1932 at home in Southampton to Zofia (Kagan) and Stanley Sypek, she spent most of her life in Southampton. She graduated Holyoke High School in 1950 and was subsequently employed as a bookkeeper at Wilson's Hardware in Holyoke. Working at a nearby drugstore was Leo Murawski a young pharmacist, who was to become the love of her life. The two were married on October 5th 1952 at Mater Dolorosa Church. They were blessed with 71 happy years together until Leo's passing in 2024.
Mickey treasured the memories of the children she encountered while working in the Southampton Primary School cafeteria, the neighbors she met while serving on the town's Board of Registrars, and the friendships formed as an active parishioner of the former Mater Dolorosa Church. Mickey played an integral role in managing the business side of Northside Pharmacy which she and Leo proudly owned and operated for many years in Westfield. Leo ensured hard work was always balanced with time for fun. Mickey fondly recalls spending time in Florida at their Marco Island condo where they made many long lasting friendships and created beautiful memories.
Mickey cherished her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She showed her love in what she called the tradition of Polish mothers by always preparing and sharing delicious food and baked goods, especially chicken soup and pineapple cheesecake. No one could escape without at least one plastic container of something for later.
Mickey will be deeply missed by her loving family- son Leo F. Murawski and his wife Suzanne of Falmouth, ME., and daughter Debbie Donohue of West Springfield, her grandchildren Marja Murawski of Fort Myers, FL, Leo J. Murawski and his wife Patricia of Westbrook, ME, and Christopher Donohue of Dallas, TX. She also leaves her great granddaughters, Carmen and Sophia Murawski of Westbrook, ME. Also left to cherish her memory are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends including special family friend, Rosemary Oddy of Scarborough ME. Mickey was predeceased by her brothers Frank, Edward, and John Sypek, sisters Genevieve Paszko, Wanda Lapa, Stella Wadlegger, and Elizabeth Putman.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Armbrook Village in Westfield for their, kindness, compassion, and tender care over the past few years. We are ever so grateful.
The funeral will be held on Monday April 27 at 10:45am from the Barry J.
