Estelle A. Rivest

Estelle A. (Carmel) Rivest, age 96, of Holyoke, passed away on May 11, 2021 at Mont Marie Long Term Care Facility after a period of declining health. Born the daughter of the late Joseph and Leonise (Charest) Carmel, she grew up in Holyoke and was educated in the Holyoke school system. She was the mother of the late Maryjane Saccavino and her husband James, and Ann Odabashian and her husband Albert, and James Rivest and his wife Lynn. In addition to her son and daughter and their spouses, she also leaves her beloved grandchildren: Anthony Saccavino and his wife Annette, Melissa Odabashian and her boyfriend Jeffrey Intinrelli, Michael Odabashian and his wife Whitney, Matthew Odabashian, James Rivest and his wife Carrie Ann, and Stephen Rivest and his wife Jess; her two great grandchildren, Dylan Odabashian and Colton Rivest, and several nieces and cousins. Besides her parents, daughter, and son-in-law, Estelle was also predeceased by her sisters, Alice Astley and her husband Benjamin, and Rita Wakefield and her husband Clyde. Mrs. Rivest worked for many years at Smith College and Holyoke Hospital, ending her career in administrative work at her beloved Holyoke Community College. She was a strong lady who devoted herself to raising her three children, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She always loved her city of Holyoke, and never missed watching the St. Patrick's Day Parade. She will be missed greatly by her family. A calling hour will be held on Monday, May 17th from 10 to 11 am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center, 627 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.
