Francis J. Galat, Jr.

Francis J. Galat, Jr., age 91, of South Hadley, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Francis J., Sr. and Anna (Zebrowski) Galat. Very active in his faith, he was also an avid fly fisher, polka dancer, and family man. He graduated from STCC and was a United States Navy Veteran. Following his Naval service, he was a longtime employee of RCA. He was a communicant of the former Mater Dolorosa Parish. Frank was the widower of Lydia (Niedzwiecki) who died on March 28, 2012. He is survived by two sons: Francis D. Galat of CT and Michael S. Galat and his wife Linda of FL; one daughter, Susan St. Sauver and her husband Ken; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, William Galat; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Aufderheide Galat; sister, Marcella Galat Jamieson (Harold); and brother, Edmund Galat. A funeral service will be held for Frank on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of the MA Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. There and no calling hours and the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home in Holyoke is handling arrangements.
