Frank R. Mooney, age 81, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024 at Baystate Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones. Frank was born in Holyoke, son of the late Francis and Alexandria (Zebrowski) Mooney. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and the University of Connecticut. He remained a lifelong Huskies fan. During the Vietnam War he served as a United States Army Officer with the 101st Airborne Division, receiving the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Frank was a great lover of music and culture attending the Woodstock Music Festival in 1969, the Newport Jazz Festival, and numerous concerts at TangleWood. For 35 years Frank was a compliance officer for the Department of Labor and Industries. Helping numerous veterans get into apprentice training programs and use their GI Bill. An avid reader, Frank was a member of the Friends of the Holyoke Public Library, past president of Holyoke Youth Soccer League, (where he founded the “Sidekicks” division), a member of the VFW, and a board member on the Holyoke War Memorial. Frank is survived by his wife, Maura Ann (Connor) Mooney; his son, Conor Francis Mooney; his two daughters: Allie Frances Mooney, and Katie Sloot and her husband Ben; two beloved grandchildren, Charlie Sloot and Sadie Sloot; two brothers: Thom Mooney and his wife Joey, and Jimmy Mooney and his wife Carol; a sister Debby Fogarty and her husband John; and his best dog-friend Finnegan. Frank was predeceased by his brother Richard Mooney and sister-in-law Diane. Committal with U.S. Army honors will be held on Wednesday October 23 at 11:00am in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Visitation will be held Tuesday October 22 from 4:00 to 7:00pm in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street.
