Genevieve Mary (Karbowski) Milewski, age 96, of Holyoke, MA passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023. She was born September 15, 1926 in Bridgeport, CT to Veronica (Mocarski) Karbowski and Chester Karbowski. She graduated from Holyoke High School in 1945. She worked in retail at W.T. Grant Co. before taking on a career in educational films at Tecnifax Corp and Scott Film. On October 12, 1946 she married Walter Milewski and raised two children, Stephen Milewski and Barbara (Milewski) Smith. She is predeceased by her husband, Walter; her sister, Janet Karbowski Abbot; and her son, Stephen Milewski. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara; her son-in-law, Richard; her daughter-in-law, Susan Milewski; her nephew Paul Abbot, as well as her four grandchildren: Matthew Smith (Will Dao), Geoffrey Smith, Kristin Milewski (Jeff Nelson) and Sarah (Milewski) Queenan (Matthew). Genevieve lived on 139 West Meadowview Road from 1977-2021 and took great pride in her home and in her neighborhood, where she could often be found gardening or helping her neighbors. She attended her church regularly for over ninety years, initially a member at Mater Dolorosa and then Our Lady of the Cross. She loved to travel, visiting Portugal, Morocco, Italy and Switzerland. One of her favorite places she visited was the Canadian Rockies. She often took courses in the evenings at Holyoke High Adult School where she learned how to cane chairs, refinish furniture as well as ceramics. She was a voracious reader. She loved her family very much, hosting holiday meals or traveling to visit for holidays frequently. The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 26th at 10:30 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church, Holy Cross Avenue, both in Holyoke. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 am.
