George Amerige Villa, Jr., age 93, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2021 at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center. George was born in Holyoke, son of the late George A. and Ann (Malley) Villa and attended Northampton schools. A World War II Veteran, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 to 1947. George was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Works for 31 years and Arrow Security for 10 years. He was a parishioner of the former Mater Dolorosa Church and sang in the MD Choir. He also sang in the George Burns Choral Group and the Dan Kane Singers, and was an avid bowler. He is survived by his wife Doris M. (Desprey) Villa; two sons: Michael Villla of South Hadley and George Villa of Holyoke; his step-children: Patricia Griffin and her husband Donald of Westfield, Kathleen McDonough and her husband Donald of Easthampton, Michael Counter and his wife Erin of Springfield, and Laura Auseth and her husband Tim of Georgia; four grandchildren: Jennifer Smith (Jeffrey), Angelina Buoniconti (Stephen), Anthony Gacona, and Cayden Counter; several great-grandchildren; a brother, James Villa of Vermont; brothers-in-law John and Joseph and sisters-in-law Anne Cote (Francis) and Mary Ashe (Robert); and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his friends at Dunkin Donuts and F.L. Roberts. George was predeceased by his first wife, Josephine; two sisters, Katherine and Geraldine; two brothers, Robert and Wallace; and by his brother-in-law Peter Desprey and his wife Miriam. A funeral service will be held on Friday October 29 at 12:30pm in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by Committal with Military Honors at 2:00pm in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday from 11:00am to 12:30pm. The family respectfully requests that masks be worn at all times.
