SOUTHAMPTON: Gerald L. Ruel, age 92, of Southampton, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 at his daughter’s home in Southampton. He was born in Saint-Charles-de-Bellechasse, P.Q., Canada, son of the late Phileas and Leida (Asselin) Ruel, and was educated there. Gerald resided in Massachusetts for over 70 years, and was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a self- employed painting contractor and was owner/proprietor of CLR Decor for many years. Gerald was the widower of Colette A. (Lemieux) Ruel, who passed away on July 18, 2016. He is survived by twin daughters, Karen Peters and her husband Daniel of Southampton, and Doreen Boisjoli and Gary Pasquini of Holyoke; a son, Gary Ruel and his wife Sherryl of Ludlow; six grandchildren: Jeremy, Ashley, Tristan, Nicholas, Justin, Kayla; five great-grandchildren: Hudson, Hayden, Hadley Rose, Mackenzie, and Ryan, along with brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Colette, Gerald was predeceased by nine siblings. The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield. Calling hours will be held prior to the Mass from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial at the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holyoke Hospice Life Care, 575 Beech Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
