Harvey E. Lafleur Obituary
Harvey Lafleur, 101, of Chicopee, MA, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025. Born on August 4, 1923, he was the son of the late Joseph and Edouardina (Duprat) Lafleur. Harvey attended Chicopee schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II. He served with honor and distinction, earning the Bronze Star for heroic actions during the Battle of the Bulge. In 1946, Harvey married the love of his life, Marjory Ramsey. Together they raised three daughters and shared 75 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Harvey dedicated 42 years of service to the VanValkenburg Company, where he worked as a tool maker. A devoted member of St. Rose de Lima Parish, Harvey remained deeply engaged in his community throughout his life. After retirement, he generously gave his time and talents to many local organizations and events, including the Rivermills Senior Center, Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen, and the Westover Galaxy Community Council. His outstanding commitment to volunteerism earned him numerous honors, including the President’s Service Award, the Adam Marcinkiewicz Award, the Outstanding Senior Center Award, the Charles Tracy Award, and the Paul E. Samson Award. Harvey was also a proud participant in the Veterans Video History Project, which documents the personal stories of veterans for the Library of Congress. As the first local contributor, he later helped record the histories of more than 90 fellow veterans. A man of quiet strength and steadfast generosity, Harvey could always be counted on to lend a hand—no matter how great or small the need.
He is survived by his daughters Donna Teehan and her husband Paul, and Jo-Anne Lafleur; his grandchildren Tammie Carroll, Robert Carroll, Kristen Chapdelaine and her husband Scott, Jennifer Sanford and her husband Doug, Adam Centerbar and his wife Andrea, and Amy Cummings and her husband Jamie; his great-grandchildren Hailey Friedrich and her husband Jeremy, Hannah Chapdelaine, Parker Sanford, Camden Sanford, and Seth Centerbar and his wife Jenny; and his great-great-granddaughters Lydia and soon-to-arrive Callie Friedrich.
