Helen P. (Malek) Lamagdeleine, age 91, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 2, 2023 surrounded by family. Born and raised in Holyoke, she was the daughter of Polish immigrants Vincent and Mary (Lesewic) Malek and was one of six children raised on the family farm which led to her nickname ‘Farmer.’ Helen resided on Rugby Street for the entirety of her life, where generations of memories were created and will now forever be remembered. Regardless of time, she could always be found sitting on her breezeway, with open arms ready for a warm, welcoming embrace, and Polka music playing loudly for all to hear.
Helen was employed for numerous years as a collator at Hano Business Forms where she retired not once, but twice. She was an active woman with an accompanying zest for life, illustrated by an abundance of hobbies. Whether singing with the Dane Kane Singers, bowling, playing a hand of cards or a round of golf and always attending weekly Sunday Mass, Helen cherished these life moments. Her dearest times were spent being a Babci to her two granddaughters, Victoria and Brianna. She was enthusiastically present during each of her granddaughters’ accomplishments and life events. Nothing was too small to warrant a genuine celebration of love for “her girls.”
She was the widow of Arthur J. Lamagdeleine, who passed away on March 8, 1991. Helen will be sorely missed by her loving family. She is survived by her son, Ronald Lamagdeleine and his wife Mary of Westhampton; her daughter, Cynthia Wagner and her husband Gary of Russell, and his two children, Jason and Cailene Wagner; her two grandchildren, Victoria and Brianna Weltlich; several nieces and nephews and lastly, her life companion, William “Sandy” Salois of Holyoke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church, Holy Cross Avenue. Burial will follow at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 10th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
