Helen Joan (Bigelow) Masters, age 89, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022 at Day Brook Village Nursing Center in Holyoke. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Walter T. and Jeanne (Marin) Bigelow, and was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart Grammar and High School. In 1971 Helen graduated from Holyoke Trade School with a certificate in Practical Nursing; she went on to work at Providence Hospital, Holyoke Geriatric Authority, Belchertown State School, and for the Commonwealth of MA. In her spare time, Helen enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, and making silk flowers and stained glass. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially taking trips to the beach with her kids and grandkids. Helen is survived by her seven children: Roberta Dion of Easthampton, Linda Masters of Nantucket, Robert Masters of Holyoke, Susan Masters of Holyoke, William Masters of California, James Masters of Holyoke, and Cynthia Watty of Florida; grandchildren: Anthony, Melissa, Kirk, Lee, Kara, Taylor, Dale, Robert, Aveour, Cuiee, Jenée, and Tyrell, as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her brother, Edward J. Bigelow. The family wishes to thank the staff at Day Brook Village Nursing Center for their compassionate care of Helen. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Helen at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 18th at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, with burial following at Saint Jerome Cemetery, 1666 Northampton Street, both in Holyoke. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke.
