CHICOPEE

Herbert F. Ewing, 93, of Fairview, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2020 at Willimansett Center East Nursing Home.  Born in Columbus, Ohio, Herb was the second child of the late Edgar and Frances (Grell) Ewing. During his service in the Army Air Corps (1945-46), while stationed at Westover Air Force Base, he met June M. Ferguson of Fairview. They were married on Nov. 1st, 1947, and moved to Beaudry Ave, Chicopee, in 1952, where they lived in the home Herb built himself until 2019. Herb was a self-employed printer and ran Trade Litho Supply for 50 years, beginning in his basement in 1955, before opening a storefront on Main St, Holyoke in 1961.  He also worked at the Customer Service window of the Holyoke Post Office, retiring in 1991. Herb was a life member of the Pelham Lions Club, a member, longtime secretary, and onetime Post Commander of American Legion Post 351 in Holyoke, a licensed First-Class Amateur Radio Operator, and a lifelong Ohio State Buckeyes fan. During their 72 years of marriage, Herb and June enjoyed vacationing at their camp house on Hardwick Pond, and loved to dance. They were members of the College Town Twirlers Square Dance Club and the Amherst College Faculty Ballroom Dancing Group. June passed away on March 12, 2019. Herb was also predeceased by his eldest daughter, Debra Cushing, eldest granddaughter, Dana Cushing, and his brothers, Eugene “Red” Ewing and Ed Ewing. He is survived by 3 sons, David, and his wife Francine, of Easthampton, Gary, and his wife Debbie, of Belchertown, and Scott, and his wife Pam, of Chicopee; 2 daughters, Julie Mis, and her husband Bill, of Westfield, and Kristy Dunning and her husband Mike, of South Hadley; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Murray of Kentucky, and many nieces and nephews, including Loretta Endicott, and her husband Paul, of Grove City, Ohio, and Lorraine Griffith, and her husband Bob, of Orient, Ohio, with whom he was especially close throughout his life. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke.  Masks and Social Distancing required; friends must exit the funeral home immediately after paying respects. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chicopee Public Library, 449 Front St, Chicopee, MA 01013
