Jack Joyce Obituary

HARWICH PORT

After 89 wonderful years, Jack Joyce passed away peacefully in his Harwich Port home surrounded by his family on September 13, 2018. Jack was born on February 15, 1929 in New York, New York to Anna (D’Amour) Joyce and John Joseph Joyce.  Dedicated to the family that he created with his wife of 59 years, Carol (Kennedy) Joyce, Jack’s legacy continues through his five sons and their wives John, David (Maria), Chris (Meghan), Edward (Lee) and Patrick (Pam), his grandchildren and their spouses Lance, Jacob, John, David (Stephanie), Katie (Travis), Sarah, Patrick, Norah, Rowan, Brendan, Finn, Maeve, and Jack. Jack’s extensive family blessed him with deep and meaningful connections with many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack graduated from St. Anne’s Academy in Manhattan, NY. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attended St. John’s University, and with his wife built a successful oil business, Better Heat. An ever faithful Catholic, Jack served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was a daily communicant of Saint Williams in Naples, Florida and Holy Trinity in West Harwich, Massachusetts. He continued his commitment to God’s work through his service on the Board of Jericho House (Holyoke, MA), the Board of Our Lady of Perpetual Health Retreat Center (Venice, FL), and as a Knight of Columbus, Third Degree. One of his great joys was Irish music and visiting with his family in Abbeydorney, Ireland. Known as the “Mayor” of Wyndemere Bluffs Road, Jack loved his summers in Harwich Port surrounded by his family.  His charisma and charm were well known to many. Calling hours will be held at Morris, O’Connor, and Blute Funeral Home on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 9:00AM-10:30AM and a funeral Mass will follow at Holy Trinity Church, West Harwich, MA at 11:00AM to be celebrated by Jack’s cousin, Msgr. David Joyce. A calling hour will be held at Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home in Holyoke, MA on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A burial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Saint Jerome’s Cemetery in Holyoke MA. www.barryjfarrellfuneralhome.com. There will be a memorial service in Naples, FL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Springfield, MA (http://ssjspringfield.org/partnerwithus/makeagift/memorialgifts/). The Sisters’ dedication to education and the role they played in teaching his sons held a special place in Jack’s heart.
