James Arthur Britton, Jr., age 74, of Easthampton, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born in Holyoke, a son of the late James A. and Gertrude L. (Footit) Britton, graduated from Holyoke High School where he was an All-Western Mass hockey player, and attended Holyoke Community College. Jim was a United States Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1966 to 1970. He had been employed by Bay Oil Company since 1970, later serving as Chief Financial Officer of the company. Jim was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton. Jim truly enjoyed coaching in the Easthampton Hockey Association, spending long days on the beaches in Maine, tending to his yard and gardens, golfing with his family and friends, was a dedicated KENO player and lottery ticket scratcher, as well as an avid fan of the Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox, and New England Patriots. But beyond that, at his core, Jim was the ultimate family man who always preached and practiced the value of family and the building of memories. Jim dearly loved and treasured his family, always doing for them whatever he could to ensure their wellbeing. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Donna (Mayer) Britton, three children: Jason Britton (wife Laura), Joshua Britton, Jessica Cortis (husband Adam); seven cherished grandchildren: Julia, Adrianna, Lila, Alexa, Abby, James (aka “Stinky”) and Cole; five siblings: Ann Kotfilia, Barbara Moran, Timothy Britton and his wife Mary, Christopher Britton, and Elizabeth Britton; a sister-in-law, Marge McClenahan, and many loving nieces, nephews, and family and friends. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by a brother, Jonathan Britton; a sister Noreen (Britton) and her husband Tommy Minkler, brother-in-law Russell Moran and Russ Kotfila; and a sister-in-law, Joan Britton. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Cooley Dickinson Hospital for their compassionate care of Jim. A Prayer Service will be held for Jim on Tuesday, October 12th at 8:45 am in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by Committal with U.S. Navy Military Honors at 10 am in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 11th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
