HOLYOKE
James F. Bronson, age 83, of Holyoke passed away at Holyoke Medical Center following a long illness on July 3, 2020. Born on December 23, 1936 he was raised in Clearfield, PA, one of seven children born to Frederick and Theresa (Sughrue) Bronson. He graduated from St. Francis High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955. He loved to tell stories about the time he spent in the Arctic at Frobisher Bay AFB. He was discharged at Westover AFB and remained in the area, he attended Holyoke Junior College. Professionally, he was export manager at AMPAD which continued with his friend and partner Gerald Grant, doing business as B&G Associates. Jim was active in Holyoke Youth Soccer as a both a coach and referee. He was a 20- year hospice volunteer and member of the military order of the Purple Heart where he enrolled recipients into the organization’s museum in New York. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris (Reilly) Bronson, his son Jim, wife Lynne and granddaughters Madelyn and Laura of Pittsfield, MA and son Matthew, wife Megan and granddaughters Reilly and Mia of Seymour, CT, brother George of Florida and Mary Clare of Maryland and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours at Barry Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St, Holyoke on Wednesday July 8th from 10:00 AM -12:00 PM, including a prayer service. Masks and Social Distancing Required. Private burial will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be sent to the Holyoke VNA, 575 Beech St, Holyoke MA, 01040.
