HOLYOKE
James Michael Cannon, age 76, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday November 2, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Bernard and Helen (Corcoran) Cannon, and was a graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School Class of 1964, and Westfield State College Class of 1968. Michael was a teacher and administrator in the Holyoke Public School System from 1969 to 2005, retiring from Dean Technical High School. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Irish Cultural Center of Western Massachusetts, and Holyoke Lodge of Elks #902. Michael is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan C. (O’Connor) Cannon; two sons: Brian A Cannon of Holyoke and James M.G. Cannon and his wife Laura of Holyoke; a daughter, Moira A. Cannon of Holyoke; one grandson, Jack Cannon; a brother, John B. “Brian” Cannon of Southwick; brother-in-law Albert Kalmbach of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Catherine Kalmbach. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial for James Michael on Wednesday November 10 at 10:00am in Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Tuesday November 9th from 4:00 to 7:00pm in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of James Michael to the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) for rider Harry Ostrander, 77 4th Avenue, Needham, MA 0249. The family would like to thank the nurses at the D’Amour Cancer Center for the care that they provided, and the hospice nurses that were so kind and helpful.
