James Fitzgerald Obituary

HOLYOKE

James M. Fitzgerald, age 82, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late James T. and Anna E. (McLaughlin) Fitzgerald and was a member of the last graduating class of Sacred Heart High School in Holyoke. Jim served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961 and received his Associates Degree from Holyoke Community College. He was an Accountant for Brown Paper Company, Ampad Corporation, and later Southworth Paper Company for many years. Jim was an avid golfer and sports fan, but his true passion was coaching his children’s sports teams. Jim was affectionately referred to as “Mr. Fitz” by the kids he coached and never missed a game for his children or grandchildren.  He was a member of Holyoke Elks Lodge #902 and a former parishioner of Holy Family and Blessed Sacrament Parish. James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra (Lucchesi) Fitzgerald; a daughter, Sheila Laroche and her husband Russell of Chesterfield; two sons, James T. Fitzgerald of Holyoke and Sean P. Fitzgerald and his wife Dorothy of Southampton; his grandchildren, Zachary Laroche, Adam Laroche, Logan Fitzgerald and Shelby Leslie as well as a brother, Thomas Fitzgerald, USMC and his wife Beverly of Leominster, and beloved daughter-in-law, Erika Fitzgerald of East Longmeadow; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff on the Hospice Wing at the Holyoke Soldier’s Home as well as the staff at Holyoke Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave to Jim.  Funeral Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holyoke Soldier’s Home Activity Fund, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to Holyoke Medical Center, Valley Health Systems Inc., Development Office, 20 Hospital Drive Holyoke MA 01040.  The Barry J.
