James H. Fleming Obituary

James “Jim” Henry Fleming, 88, of Holyoke, MA, loving husband of the late Joan (Domingue) Fleming, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026 at Day Brook Village in Holyoke following a period of declining health. Born on April 18, 1937 to the late Rouloff and Lucille (Caouette) Fleming, Jim was a proud lifelong resident of Holyoke. After attending the Holyoke Trade School, Jim was employed at Remington Rand and U.S. Envelope Company until his retirement. As Jim eased into a post-retirement routine, he shared his newfound availability with Schermerhorn’s Seafood as a part time delivery driver for several years. During his life, Jim was actively involved in several community organizations to include the Holyoke Boys Club, a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #90 of Holyoke and the Holyoke Council on Aging & Senior Center. In his spare time, he enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, watching sports, bus trips to the casino and socializing with friends at the Senior Center.  Jim never missed an opportunity to play the daily number or test his luck on a scratch ticket.

Jim’s Catholic faith was an important component of his internal beliefs, and he was a longtime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church.

Jim is survived by his son, Bob Fleming and wife Debbie of Franklin, MA; daughter, Cindy Costanza and husband Peter of Holyoke, and his adoring granddaughter, Carissa Costanza.  In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Kathleen Fleming, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan, with whom he shared 64 years of devoted marriage. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond “Bob” Fleming, and sisters: Jeanette Costa, Marie Boyington, Eileen Boulanger and Constance Rock.

His family would like to thank the staff at Day Brook Village for their professional care and support especially during the last year.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 10th at 8:30 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, and burial in Saint Jerome Cemetery, all in Holyoke. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday, March 9th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holyoke Council on Aging & Senior Center, or to Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice, PO Box 329, Northampton, MA.

Jim will be missed by all.
