HOLYOKE
James Joseph “Jim” Jackowski, Jr., age 62 of Holyoke (referred to as “Cow” by his closest friends), passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Holyoke, the eldest son of Patricia (Giannini) Jackowski of Holyoke and the late James J. Jackowski, Sr. Jim was educated in the Holyoke Schools, was a graduate of Holyoke High School Class of 1975, and received his Associates Degree from Holyoke Community College. He was employed by the Holyoke Gas and Electric (HG&E) Department as the Business Liaison Customer Service & Credit Manager since 2004. Prior to his work at the HG&E he helped his father, James, run The Microfilm Company for over two decades. Besides his loving mother, Jim is survived by two daughters, Katie Jackowski of Holyoke and Anna Jackowski of Oxford; a son, Justin Bartha and his wife Maureen “Mozie” of Boston; the light of his life, his granddaughter, Hailey of Oxford; two brothers, Michael Jackowski and his wife Ellen Conlin of Longmeadow and Edward Jackowski and his wife Suzanne of Walpole as well as many loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his family, Jim leaves behind friends too numerous to count, including his best friend Marty Dunn. Jim was active in many charitable organizations and nonprofits, including The Holyoke Merry-Go-Round where he served as its President of the Board of Directors for 33 years. Jim’s personality was bigger than life and Holyoke has lost one of its greatest cheerleaders. He had a love of music and was happiest singing oldies with his friends and family. Jim loved baseball, was an avid Yankee fan and was affectionately known as “Coach” to many of his former players from Holyoke Youth Sports. If he ever knew how to use a hashtag (#) he would have been a poster child for #HOLYOKESTRONG. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to the Holyoke Merry Go Round www.holyokemerrygoround.org/donate or a check made payable to the Holyoke Merry-Go-Round, 221 Appleton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. All services are private. The Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home is handling all arrangements. At a later date the family will host a celebration of Jim’s life.
