James G. Lowe, age 86, of South Hadley passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Holyoke, a son of the late James A. and Evelyn (Kelly) Lowe. James was a graduate of the former Saint Jerome High School in Holyoke and the University of Florida. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era serving from 1961 to 1964. Jim was an Editor for more than 48 years for Merriam Webster, retiring in 2015. He lived in South Hadley for many years and was a communicant of Saint Patrick’s Church. Jim is survived by three sons: Joshua J. Lowe of South Hadley, Jeffrey W. Lowe of Ithaca, NY and Ryan A. Lowe of South Hadley; three grandchildren: Brennan, Kaibri, and Emmeryn Lowe; a brother: Paul V. Lowe of Jamaica, New York; a sister, Virginia Costello of Sundance, Wyoming; two nieces Kelly O'Sullivan of Westfield and Heather Lowe of Holyoke; and a nephew Ben Dulude of Australia. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Richard F. Lowe and his wife Ann, and a brother Paul Lowe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 6th at 10:00am in Saint Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley. Burial will follow in Saint Rose Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held Monday, January 5, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke.
