James McPhee, age 96, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2023 at Renaissance Manor on Cabot in Holyoke. James was born in Holyoke, son of the late Harold and Marie (McLain) McPhee. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific theatre. James retired as the Foreman of the Maintenance Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was a longtime parishioner of Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley. James was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Kozel) McPhee in 2015. James had a strong love for his family and friends and he will be missed. He is survived by three children: Barry J. McPhee and his wife Marcia of South Hadley, Sandra Cote of Chicopee, and Janice Harris of South Hadley; grandchildren: Jennifer Motyka (Matt), Gillian McPhee, Aaron Cote (Andrea), Garrett Cote, Corey Harris (Lauren), Christopher Harris, and Kaylee Nicholls; great-grandchildren: Thomas, Tucker, Makayla, Archer, Oliver, Sumer, Natalie, Mason, Owen, Logan, and Shaelynn; and several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his two sisters, Kathleen Moynahan and Anne Hebert, daughter-in-law Catherine Collamore McPhee, and his son-in-law Richard Harris, Jr. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 17th at 10:30 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saint Patrick Church, Main Street, South Hadley. Committal with U.S. Navy Honors will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 am.
