Janet R. Cote Obituary

Janet R. Cote, beloved wife, mother, memere, and great-memere, passed away peacefully on November 4th, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on Valentine’s Day in 1945 in Springfield, Massachusetts, Janet brought warmth, kindness, and joy to everyone who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of Claude and Anita Latour, and grew up as the youngest and only girl with her three brothers Kenny, Bob and Tookie. Janet was the devoted Wife of Richard Cote, the love of her life, who predeceased her in 2009. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. She was a proud and loving Mother to Lance Cote, Michele Methot and her husband Mike, and Kim Glasheen and her husband Tom. She was a cherished Memere to Alyssa Hay and her husband Zach, Tommy, Lexi, and Hannah, and a doting Great-Memere to Hudson, Savannah, and Isalena. She also had a very special bond with her brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Sandy Plota. Janet had a deep love for gardening and flowers, that’s where you would find her on any summer day. She also enjoyed shopping trips—not for anything in particular, but simply to “putz around,” savoring the little moments and in the company of those she loved sipping on a twisted tea! She spent summer vacations on Cape Cod with her family at Mayflower Beach. The beach, family and the warm sun was everything to her. She retired with her husband to Delray Beach, FL for many years until his passing and returning home to her family back in Holyoke, MA. Her heart was also full of affection for her three dachshunds—her “hot dogs,” as she fondly called them: Dexter, Bella, and Cooper—who brought her comfort and companionship. Janet will be remembered for her strong spirit, kind heart, unwavering devotion to her family, and the grace with which she lived her life. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dakin Humane Society, an animal shelter serving Western Massachusetts. At the request of Janet, all services will be private.
